Khuzestan

Chogha Zanbil Ziggurat

Ruins of the holy city from the kingdom of Elam, surrounded by three huge concrete walls. The enormous and perplexing ziggurat of Chogha Zanbil was founded in 1250 BC. The city remained unfinished as a result of Ashurbanipal’s invasion. The ziggurat at Chogha Zanbil remains to this day the best-preserved monument of this type.

Shushtar Hydraulic System

Shushtar Historical Hydraulic system is deemed a work of creative genius dating back to Darius I, The Great, in the 5th century BC. The system is still in use today, providing the city of Shushtar with water through a series of tunnels. Numerous cascades run into a downstream basin and make a fantastic spectacle.

Tomb of Daniel

Tomb of Daniel is the burial palace of Prophet Daniel in the city of Susa (Shush). Various locations have been referred to as the burial site of Prophet Daniel but the one in Susa is the most agreed-upon.

Haft Tepe

Haft Tepe is an archeological site where the remains of the ancient city of Kabnak were discovered. Kabnak was an important political center during the reign of the Elamite king Tepti-Ahar in the 15th century BC.

Ahwaz Bridges

Overall, there are seven bridges crossing the great Karun River in Ahwaz. Karun divides the city into two sides, hence the need for so many bridges in the capital city of Khuzestan. They make for a great spectacle especially at nighttime with all the lighting. There is an artificial waterfall installed on the seventh bridge that glows radiantly in the dark of night.
